BRIDGE is a cooperation group involving 155 projects in total, involving 1510 organisations from 39 countries in the areas of Smart Grid, Energy Storage, Islands, and Digitalisation funded under the Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe programs.

The BRIDGE process fosters continuous knowledge sharing amongst projects thus allowing them to deliver conclusions and recommendations about the future exploitation of the project results, with a single voice, through 4 different Working Groups representing the main areas of interest.

BRIDGE business model (BM) working group

Since the beginning of the project, the SENDER project has continuously worked in cooperation with the BRIDGE BM working group, including H2020 projects and the utilisation of commercial flexibility by BMs in Europe.

During the year, we carried out a detailed SOTA analysis of BM integration innovations/value chain disruptions under development and the applicability of SENDER solutions to support/replicate them with “white label” solutions. In addition, we conducted field research and analysis of business models for DR and home automation integration. In cooperation with the E-LAND project, we worked on the application of the BM composition tool in SENDER. Finally, we presented SENDER’s BM approach at the SmarterE conference in Munich.

BRIDGE Strategies of Engagement Working Group

SENDER participated in the sub-group tasked with exploring how to integrate a gender perspective into the engagement process.

The sub-group worked on establishing methodological information categories to select indicators according to data collection capabilities, data analysis and approach: qualitative, quantitative… All sub-group members were asked to fill in these categories for their strategies in their respective projects. Support was provided for this task, as well as for the presentation of the results to the entire “indicators” sub-group.

The sub-group also worked on the design of a survey. This was shared between different EU-funded projects and the results were analyzed. SENDER also participated in the sub-group for a brief discussion on the different indicator options to be included in the report.

BRIDGE data management working group

The activities of the data management working group were divided into several actions. The “use case repository” action aimed to set up and maintain a use case repository, intended to host all use cases from BRIDGE projects and make them available to future R&I and industrial projects.

In 2022 and early 2023, SENDER contributed by providing feedback on the features of the use case repository and its ease of use for delivering use cases. We uploaded a SENDER use case to the new UC repository hosted on the EIRIE platform and provided feedback on the tool.

In the context of the Data Management Working Group’s activities, synergies with other projects were mainly linked to the cross-comparison of use cases and the approaches, standards and solutions chosen. In particular, the “use case repository” action provided a catalog of use cases from other projects, and the “interoperability of flexibility assets” action provided a methodology and framework for comparing different projects with similar use cases.

BRIDGE Regulatory Working Group

SENDER participated in two of BRIDGE Regulatory WG questionnaires:

  • on “Sector coupling/sector integration” (Action 4) describing the barriers for implementing sector coupling solutions.
  • on “Improve consumers’ market access to value their flexibility” (Action 1), giving an overview on the flexibility products of SENDER and the market segments in which the flexibility can be offered.
